I just love this video. On the surface it looks like a typical Youtube video of a weirdo dancing around on drugs. But this video exemplifies so many things.
Do your own thing
This guy didnt stop to look around and see how other people were dancing so he could be like them. He danced how he wanted to even though it seemed crazy when he was the only one doing it.
Don’t worry about what the people around you are doing. Focus on what you need to accomplish and don’t let others distract you.
Ignore the critics
Notice the first guy that came up to dance with him was doing so in a sort of mocking way. Dancing guy isnt phased a bit and in fact he even tries to show the new guy how to do his dance.
There are plenty of haters in this world that love to do nothing but criticize. They will find any flaw as a reason to doubt you. Just remember that history is not made by critics but by those that ignore them.
Acceptance will eventually spread like wildfire
It took 20 seconds for the first person to join. 35 seconds later another person joined. 20 seconds later 2 more people joined. At this point the exponential growth rate is apparent as it takes only seconds for the group size to increase by orders of magnitude from what it was for the first minute. By 2:30 there are well over a hundred people in the group.
Most radically new technology is slow to be adopted. The internet started in the late 1960s but didnt reach mass adoption until the mid 90s. That was 30 years of relatively slow growth of something that completely dominates all aspects of modern society to this day. Not all great ideas are accepted at first but eventually people do come around.
